Tentative Title of PhD: Role and Status of Women in the Agricultural Sector: A Capability Approach based Study in Kashmir Division

Abstract:  Agriculture in Kashmir depends heavily on women’s labour, yet their contribution often remains invisible and undervalued. This study examines the role and status of women in Kashmir’s agricultural sector through the Capability Approach developed by Amartya Sen. Moving beyond conventional indicators such as income and employment, it focuses on women’s capabilities, agency, and freedoms to make meaningful choices. The study identifies the social, economic, and institutional constraints limiting women’s ability to convert resources into valued outcomes. It aims to provide a deeper understanding of women’s lived experiences and gender inequalities within Kashmir’s agricultural economy.

Workshops attended: One-Week online course on ‘Statistical tools and Analysis in Research using SPSS’ jointly organised by the Integrated Research and Development foundation, Chandigarh and the Chandigarh University, Mohali from 23-02-2026 to 01-03-2026.
