Tentative Title of PhD: Land Redistribution and Rural Development: An Empirical Analysis.
Abstract: This study examines the long-term impact of land redistribution on rural development in Jammu and Kashmir through an empirical analysis of the landmark agrarian reforms of 1950 and 1976. While these reforms abolished landlordism and transferred land to cultivators, their contemporary developmental outcomes remain inadequately quantified. The study analyses the relationship between land redistribution, poverty reduction, human development, and regional disparities at a disaggregated level. By comparing beneficiary and non-beneficiary households and constructing a Rural Development Index, it seeks to generate evidence-based insights into the enduring socio-economic effects of land reforms and their relevance for contemporary rural development policy.
Workshop Attended: One-Week research workshop on ‘Advanced Quantitative and Qualitative Methodology’ organized by the Post Graduate Departemt of Social Work, University of Kashmir from 09-02-2026 to 13-02-2026.
