Tentative Topic of PhD: Land Reforms and Agrarian Transformation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Abstract: This study examines the impact of land reforms on agricultural development and land ownership patterns in Jammu and Kashmir. By abolishing large landed estates and redistributing land to cultivators, these reforms aimed to reduce inequalities and transform the agrarian structure. The study analyses their effects on landholding patterns, tenancy reforms, and Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) changes between 1980 and 2026, focusing on agricultural land, forests, fallow land, and urban expansion. Using secondary data, historical records, and GIS-based spatial analysis, the research evaluates the socio-economic and spatial dimensions of agrarian change and their implications for long-term rural development.

Workshop Attended: One-Week Research Workshop on ‘Advanced Quantitative and Qualitative Methodology’ organized by the Post Graduate Department of Social Work, University of Kashmir from 09-02-2026 to 13-02-2026.
