Title of PhD Topic; Dynamics of Financial Openness, Fiscal Policy and External Competitiveness:  evidence from India and ASEAN

Abstract

This study will explore the interplay of financial openness, trade openness, and institutional quality in shaping external competitiveness, focusing on countries with varying stages of economic development and institutional maturity, such as India and ASEAN nations. Additionally, the study will explore the nuanced role of intermediate exchange rate regimes, export diversification, and sectoral financial openness in influencing external competitiveness of India vis-à-vis ASEAN. Moreover, it will systematically explore the differential impact of financial openness on economic complexity and real exchange rate stability, particularly in economies with evolving fiscal policies and structural constraints. To conclude, this study will try to understand the comparative effectiveness of financial openness and fiscal policy adjustments in fostering sustainable competitiveness across these diverse regions.
