Dr. Javaid Iqbal Khan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Kashmir. His academic expertise spans Applied microeconomics, Development Studies, Institutional Economics, and the Economy of Jammu and Kashmir, with over 15 years of teaching, research, and policy engagement.

 

He earned his PhD in Economics with a thesis examining labour market outcomes among Indian Muslims. His scholarly work is widely published in reputed national and international journals, that are indexed in Scopus and Web of Sciences. These include among others - Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), The Indian Economic Journal, Studies in Economics and Econometrics (Taylor & Francis), Statistics, Politics and Policy, Journal of Quantitative Economics, International Journal of Social Economics (Emerald), Journal of Financial Economic Policy (Emerald). His research addresses a range of issues such as poverty and inequality, healthcare access, malnutrition, central bank independence, fiscal governance, sustainability and regional industrialization.

 

Dr. Khan is the author and editor of several books, including Muslims in Indian Labour Market: Access and Opportunities (SAGE, 2019); Perspectives on Jammu and Kashmir Economy (Bookwell, 2017); Critical Reflections and Explorations In Regional Development: Insights From North-West India (2018) Kalpaz Publications (Gyan Publishing House) New Delhi; His upcoming book “Politics, Governance, and Economy in Jammu and Kashmir: Intersections and Transformations” is being published by Routledge in early 2026.

 

He has served as a consultant to the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, contributing to policy-oriented evaluations of Centrally Sponsored Schemes across India and in Jammu and Kashmir. He has completed 3 research projects and has supervised 5 students for the award of PhD in Economics.
