Tittle of Ph.D. topic: State-Dependent Fiscal Multipliers, and Monetary and Fiscal Policy Rules: Evidence from India.
Abstract: This study addresses critical gaps in understanding India’s fiscal policy dynamics, focusing on three underexplored areas: state-dependent fiscal effectiveness across business cycles, interactions between fiscal and monetary regimes post-FRBM Act and inflation-targeting adoption, and debt sustainability incorporating non-linear dynamics. By analysing fiscal policy asymmetry, it examines how effectiveness varies with economic phases and evaluates regime shifts in policy rules. Additionally, it extends debt sustainability analysis, integrating non-linear methods to capture evolving trends. The findings offer updated insights into India’s fiscal-monetary interplay, cyclical policy impacts, and sustainability challenges, bridging theoretical and empirical gaps for informed policymaking.
