With profound sorrow, the Department of Economics, University of Kashmir, under the leadership of Professor Effat Yasmin, deeply mourns the passing of Professor Ab. Wahid Qureshi, a distinguished academician and an exemplary leader, who left for his heavenly abode on Sunday, 17thNovember 2024.

Professor Qureshi was a founding member of our department, a visionary who laid the foundation for academic excellence and intellectual growth. His illustrious career was marked by numerous achievements, including serving as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir and the founding Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir. As Dean Academic Affairs and in various other administrative capacities, his contributions were transformative, leaving an indelible mark on the academic landscape of our region.

Known for his humility, soft-spoken demeanor, and polished personality, Professor Qureshi was a man of immense compassion and humanity. He inspired generations of students, colleagues, and peers with his wisdom, integrity, and dedication to the field of education.

His loss is immeasurable, and his legacy will continue to guide us. The Department of Economics extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire academic fraternity.

May the Almighty grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and provide strength to all who are grieving this irreparable loss.
